Heritage Cove is in full swing for the festive season and as the temperature dips, who will be lucky in love this Christmas?
It’s December in Heritage Cove and along with the village Christmas tree, frosty mornings and the promise of the most wonderful time of the year, the new waffle shack is about to open. And its owner isn’t a stranger to the Cove, because after all this time, Daniel is back to make amends with his brother Harvey – as well as a few other locals he might have offended along the way.
Fairly new to the village, local blacksmith Lucy has kept up the pretence of being with her ex for the sake of his gran but she’s fed up with all the lies. Determined to come clean and live the life she wants to live, she’s devastated to find that her attraction to Daniel is tainted by the fact he’s hiding a few things of his own. And his secrets are ones she isn’t sure she’ll ever be able to get past.
Heritage Cove is full of friendship and community; it’s a welcoming place people visit and never want to leave. But will it work its magic for Daniel and Lucy?

My Thoughts
The title and cover alone hooked me in and made me want to read this book. How gorgeous is that book cover? It reminded me of my tour around Belgium last Christmas (2019), wandering around Christmas Markets in pretty towns like Bruges and Ghent. Sampling way too many mulled wines and waffles, oozing in Belgium chocolate. It was a hard Christmas 🙂
Christmas at the Little Waffle Shack is book 2 in the Heritage Cove series. This is my first Helen J Rolfe read, luckily it’s a standalone book so I had no problem picking up from book 2 and reading about Heritage Cove and it’s residents.
First up their’s Lucy, the Cove’s new Blacksmith. Lucy has her work cut out keeping up with all the Christmas orders for her unique, bespoke metal art. I loved reading about Lucy’s workshop and the old tools and forge that she inherited when she bought the business.
Lucy, dressed in dungarees, visor and work boots, has a job that suggests she’s a strong, independent business women. When actually she’s quite sensitive and often hides up in her workshop or flat with Shadow her ‘Purrfect’ companion.
Not surprising really when you meet her annoying and manipulative ex-husband. He made my blood boil each time he popped back into Lucy’s life when he needed something. Clearly he hasn’t taken the hint when Lucy divorced him!
Next we meet Daniel, who decides to move back to his hometown with a new business idea. The problem is Daniel hasn’t lived in Heritage Cove since his teens and has rather a lot of explaining to do, especially to his brother Harvey.
Will Harvey let Daniel explain why he left so suddenly? Will he ever speak to Daniel again? And will the residents of Heritage Cove accept Daniel’s apologies? Surely by opening the Little Waffle Shack and offering the sweet treats he will win them over? Daniels not sure, but he owes it to his mum Carol to try.
Summary
A delicious read that left me wanting more.
If you love feel-good tales about community, friendship, forgiveness and new beginnings then this is the winter read for you.
Snuggle up and indulge in this heart-warming book, with a stack of waffles and a dollop of Christmas-Pud ice cream on the side.
