Weekly Book List for book fans

Five Things Friday [#10]

Hey hey, it’s Friday everyone. That means it’s time for my weekly Five Things Friday book list. So what can I tempt you with for the weekend. Don’t forget: It’s Easter weekend 2nd – 5th April. Go on treat yourself to a choccie egg and a lovely new book to snuggle up with over the long holiday weekend. Right here’s my list…

ONE

New on my TBR List

This week I was sent a copy of new book release And It’s A Beautiful Day by Nige Tassell. Thanks to Anne Cater at Random Things Tours for kindly sending me the book. I shall be sharing a book review as part of the book blog tour in May with polaris_books and author Nige Tassel. In the meantime here’s the book details, if you fancy reading along with me in April.

Book Cover Notes

Fargo – that bloody tale of greed, kidnapping and murder set in the freezing tundra of Minnesota – was the Coen brothers’ break-out film, scooping two Oscars and a towering snowdrift of critical and commercial acclaim.

On the 25th anniversary of its release, former Minnesota resident Nige Tassell slips on his snowboots to revisit the film and its landscape. The result is a leisurely stomp around Fargo‘s intricate plot, its snappy dialogue and its unforgettable characters. Insightful, revealing, entertaining and esoteric, And It’s A Beautiful Day strips back the film’s multiple layers to pose intriguing questions. What has made car salesman Jerry Lundegaard such a desperate man? Does Carl Showalter deserve to be fed into a woodchipper? And just how much food can police chief Marge Gunderson put away in a single sitting?

Sharp and snappy and full of quirkiness and humour, And It’s A Beautiful Day is perfect companion to one of the all-time great cult movies.

TWO
What I’ve been reading

I had the pleasure of connecting up with local author Debi Evans a few weeks ago and she kindly sent me her children’s book series to review. This week I have thoroughly enjoyed The Secret Adventures of Rolo (Book 1). Many thanks to Debi for sharing her delightful books. There are five adventure books in the series, I shall be sharing my book review next week and inviting Debi to chat with me in a guest post. In the meantime here’s the book details for you and a link to find out more about Rolo Dog Books.

FIVE

What’s been happening at Touring Tales

Finally on this weeks Five Things Friday Book List:

Offline: Dave & I have been busy in the garden over the past week. The weather has definitely improved here in Wiltshire. It’s been lovely to potter about in the garden, mowing the lawn, tidying the pots ready for spring / summer plants. Did you see my Books For Gardeners post recently? From beginners to amateur or expert gardeners, I’ve got you all covered for spring garden books. Take a look at my book list

We’ve also been watching the wildlife returning to the garden and tree copse behind our home. The bees are out and about getting busy with our spring flowers. We’re also chuffed to see birds nesting in our shiny new bird boxes.

Online: Over the past week I’ve been organising my new local book club’s first ‘Book Event’. We’ve been reading The Girl On The Beach and we’re ready to meet up next week for an online chat over tea/wine and cake. I’m really looking forward to chatting to the group about this book. Should be fun.

Weekly round-up: Here are the Touring Tales book blog posts published this week just incase you missed them:
