I know, I know, I missed last week’s Five Things Friday Book List. I’m sorry about that. Last Friday I had two fabulous book tours to share, which I hope you enjoyed, so I decided to skip a week. But never fear I’m back on it again today with another intriguing list to tempt you for the weekend.

What I’ve been reading

This past week I’ve read The Woman in the White Kimono. This was chosen by my local book club as our April book read. To be honest, I’m not sure I would have picked up this book, even though the cover is gorgeous. But the beauty of a book club is it encourages you to read outside of your comfort zone or stretch your reading to new genres. I’m so glad that this book was chosen by the book club as it is a fabulous book. Beautifully written with a story narrated by two woman in two different countries and in two different times (1950s and present day).

Here’s the book details to tempt you if you’re looking for a new read. I can’t recommend this book highly enough. I suspect this one will be in my Top 10 Best Reads of 2021 at the end of the year.

What I’ve been Watching

I love to find movies that are based on true stories. I recently read The Dictionary of Lost Words, you can read my book review here. Following on from this fabulous book I came across The Professor and The Madman on Amazon Prime starring Sean Penn and Mel Gibson.

Professor James Murray begins work compiling words for the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary in the mid 19th century and receives over 10,000 entries from a patient at Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum, Dr William Minor.

What’s been happening at Touring Tales

Finally on this weeks Five Things Friday Book List:

Offline: Life has been pretty busy in the Touring Tales house over the past couple of weeks. Life has just been getting in the way of my blogging life but thankfully I’ve still found time to keep on reading. So I’ll catch up with my book reviews over the next week.

My dad is now happily settled into his new bungalow. We’ve unpacked a ton of boxes, it’s amazing how much stuff you can accumulate over 70+ years! He’s now quite settled and tackling his new garden with new energy and focus, which is lovely to see.

Dave and I have managed to sneak off for our first motorhome trip yay! We have been exploring the Jurassic Coast around the UK, specifically just outside pretty Swanage. We took the crazy spaniels on a steam train ride, a paddle in the sea, fish and chips on the sea front and a LOT of exploring the cliffs and coastline. Could we be any more British Tourists 🙂 The weather was gorgeous, blue skies and sunny, which was great except we’d only packed winter clothes so we lived in the same pair of shorts for the whole trip ewww!

Online: The past couple of weeks I’ve been lucky enough to join some great blog tours, see list below. Tonight I’m really looking forward to attending the online World Book Night event being hosted by Sandi Toksvig, the line up is looking like a great event.
